My Kind of Friend/Tacky the Penguin

On the classroom site you will see two attachments created in PDF. One is based on the story of Tacky the Penguin and one is based on your student. We discussed in class today Tacky and the qualities we look for in a good friend. (Please see the previous post for the assignment to help with Tacky the Penguin)

Tacky:
1.Cut out the penguin along the solid lines.
2.Fold wings as indicated.
3.On the outside of the folded wings, have students write words or phrases that describe Tacky’s outward appearance and behavior.
4.Instruct the students to open up the wings and on Tacky’s belly, list Tacky’s qualities that are discovered when the hunters arrive.

My Kind of Friend:
Have your child brainstorm as many words as they can that describe the characteristics they like in friends and write them inside their person. Encourage your child to think of as many words as they can. Write them down on their person and send that in with the story of Tacky.

Tacky the Penguin

Today is class we read about Tacky the Penguin. I have sent home each of your children with a classroom copy of Tacky the Penguin. Read this book with your children to help them review what we talked about in class. The assignment for tonight: have each child write a new adventure for Tacky and his friends to go on. Please help them write this story and send it in with them tomorrow. I will have each child present their story to the whole class.

***Please have your child bring the classroom back so that we may have them to share with future students.***
